The activities of the Port Authority -Tonga (Ma'u Mafai ki he Ngaahi Taulanga) continues to be guided by its mission - to be the most sustainable port in the region.

The Ports Authority was established under the Ports Authority Act, as a state-owned enterprise (public enterprise) to manage and operate certain ports in the Kingdom, charged with the objectives to promote, encourage and assist in the development of commercially viable and efficient ports in Tonga.

In addition to operating and managing ports, the Authority is responsible for the

• management and maintenance of adequate and efficient ports, facilities, services and security in the Kingdom's ports.
• the provision of any goods or the performance of any services necessary to give effect to the objectives of the Authority;
• the regulation of navigation and maintenance of navigation aids within ports;
• the marketing and promotion of the use, improvement and development of ports; and
• the co-ordination of all operations within ports.

Buoyed by the rapid technological changes as well as the impact of globalization , there has been a compelling need for the Authority to develop new and innovative solutions which not only focus on the increased competitiveness of shippers to enable them to meet the ever increasing challenges of international trade and transport, but also to strengthen engagement with its ecosystem partners to ensure that a mutually beneficial business environment.

The Ports Authority pay close attention in understanding the needs of its stakeholders and customers in order to continuously serve them better.

For nearly 10 years, since 2012, the Ports Authority is proud of its web presence, continuing to serve and support the Government and the people of Tonga, our valued customers and agents.
